General Submissions Guidelines
Media criticism, anti-racism, intersectionality, and feminism are crucial to the content that we produce. We are the only “body image site for every body” that sees body image as a social justice issue. Current models of white, cis, standards of beauty, power, and even person-hood, represent an insidious bias against all who don’t fit this unattainable ideal.
As such, we’re interested in reading articles and content relating to all bodies and lived experiences, especially marginalized ones. In particular, we’re always on the lookout for articles touching the following topics:
- Eating Disorders with an Intersectional Lens
- Gender Norms/Roles
- LGBTQIA Issues
- Media Literacy/Media Representation
- Race and Culture
- Size and Weight
Articles posted on Adios Barbie are generally between 800 and 1200 words. Feel free to bend the upper and lower limits to tell your story, however.
Please submit your articles as a Microsoft Word document attached to an email. Articles should follow the standard online format:
- No indents before paragraphs
- Double-spaced between paragraphs
- One space after periods and colons
Note: Adios Barbie follows standard online writing citation guidelines. When referencing facts, statistics, or work originally published by others, please include the relevant page or information as a hyperlink in your article.
Please email submissions, queries, or other contributing questions to Pia Guerrero at firstname.lastname@example.org. Your pitch will be reviewed and we will be in contact with you if we are interested in publishing your work. Standard turn-around time from submission to publication is one month.
We look forward to hearing from you!
